One of the gifts I gave my mother for her birthday in February was for both of us to go to a stained glass place and make mosaics together. She has always loved stained glass, and it seemed like a nice segue into doing something more advanced in stained glass later on.
You were supposed to cut up little bits and arrange them into a design, which you'd later grout. I, however.... have had to go back another four times since in order to finish my mosaic, which is somewhere between a mosaic and a formal stained glass project... >_> I couldn't help going all crazy on trying to detail and shape the glass on it.
I ended up going back and spending about 3-4 more hours painstakingly using a mix of grout colorants on the foreground elements after I'd already applied the grout sealant and stained glass polish because I just wasn't happy with the shade of the original grout mix. I think the extra time I put in really helped to make the figure "pop," and I'm looking forward to hanging him in his wood frame.
The shot on the left is dominantly front lit while the right is dominantly back lit. Some of the WIPs I had posted previously on DA are below.
I'm still not totally satisfied with the photographs of him, but they will have to do for now. I believe it is approximately 8 by 10 inches, but I will confirm that once I'm home.
