Red-Tailed Hawk Four Feather Fan ~ January 13, 2005

Mere hours before I left for a convention in January I took some quick photos and scans of art I planned to sell with the intention of stitching everything together at a later point in time. So, in the spirit of true procrastination, I give you a Red-Tailed Hawk Totem Four-Feather Fan. Appoligies for the very half-arse lighting/photographs (the scan did not turn out). It sold, so I no longer have access to re-photograph it.

The feathers are natural (and un-dyed) immitation Red-Tailed Hawk Tailfeathers (complete with a curious black bar near their tips), and were a beautiful color of red in reality (much like the deerskin leather). Apparently the light kinda washed that out, however. :-/

The fan features an oiled red pine handle wrapped in rich, auburn brown deerhide lacing. The top of the fan's handle has also been trimmed with an unusual auburn coyote fur. It has two deerhide dangles, two dark brown sinew dangles, and two beaded dangles. It features brass tin cones, dyed bone beads, wooden beads, glass beads, tiger's eye, and ornate gold-plated beads. The photos really don't do it justice, because the colors and tones of the trimming just really made this feel so down to Earth.

I would guess it is probably a little over 20 inches long, and the dangles are around 15 inches or so, but that's just a guess. It's pretty hefty.
