Sketch: Sitting Oriental Dragon on Winged Fox Gargoyle ~ February 9th, 2006
Close Up of Sketch
Full Image is Available Here.
First up is a rather strange-shaped doodle that sort of took shape on the edge of a piece of lined paper. It's around 9 inches long, and only around 2 inches wide, and there was really no preliminary "sketch" so it was pretty much freehanded. It photographed very poorly so it's the only image here that's actually scanned, and even that isn't that great, but ah well. The Oriental Dragon is Micron and brushpen, and the winged fox statue is graphite. Originally I was thinking the statue would just be the head on a rainspout and therefore the water pouring out its mouth made a lot more sense but... it's a... ....fountain... yes... I did this in part because I notice a lot of my oriental dragons are floating or flying, but I wanted to try a "land-based" pose and I'm really pleased with how he turned out. I think it took me around 35 minutes or something thereabouts.
I still wish I wouldn't have done him on lined paper. I don't have the heart or time to try and edit it all out. Apparently the blue pigment is a very odd shade and do it is unwilling to simply be pulled-out in its entirety through Photoshop.
