Description

Work in Progress - May 8th, 2011

Yesterday and today I continued work on a personal piece I started in late Feb or early March. It's not any character in particular, just a fan art (Prot warrior worgen) in the Warcraft style.

No more cop out lack of background and setting. (Note: pre-planning would have been awesome.... setting up layers properly would have been fantastic as well). Thanks to those that stopped by on Livestream! I saw 11 at one point. :)

I believe this should be the Livestream link

Work in Progress. Fan Art.

Update for Critique: (Please click for full view)

The big things I aim to get out of this piece are:

- Work on illustrating in a more Warcraft “style.”
- Dramatic lighting and dynamic action pose aimed somewhat towards a TCG “style” of rendering.
- Originally because of my limited time, I entirely copped out on any sort of setting beyond “there’s a heck of a lot of fire!” so I am trying to go back in and give the scene a bit of setting.
- Further reduce “outlined” look (as seen especially in the scale-mail).
- Correct angle of right wrist to better suit holding an axe.
- Increase contrast in the foreground elements.
- Further refine armor and find ways to relate how intense the heat and blast are.
- Give more “weight” to certain areas of the cloak and perhaps add hints of trim to it.
- Correct lighting on some of the particles and rubble (I actually used a one-point perspective grid and by accident some of the light source points are pointing to the vanishing point rather than the light source, oops!).
- Add magical effects (enchantment) to the axe.
- Correct lighting on the base of the base of the axe to match scene.
- While this is currently greyscale, I am thinking that once I am satisfied with my values, that I will try colorizing it a bit with a limited palette. I still want a bit of that “blown out” look to match the intensity of the heat.

Status: I plan to work on this on Saturday and Monday. This is a current shot of how it stands.
