One Teal Blue Dream

Some years back I found myself travelling quite a lot for work. I was in a new place every one to two weeks and far away from family, friends, and familiar places with only my phone and laptop to keep my connected.

"Connected" wasn't to be confused with "grounded," however, and after some really grueling weeks containing 20-22 hour workdays, I somehow managed to get a day off.

Now most of my days off were spent doing the only logical thing you'd do out of state in a supreme state of exhaustion: sleeping. This particular day, however, I'd felt compelled to try and figure out what I really WANTED to do, what I missed and longed for the most?

What I found was that I missed attending Pow Wows. That through pure, unfortunate luck that year, that I'd missed every single one I usually attended locally (and some not), and I looked up if just by chance there were any going on, and lo-and-behold: there was! Some... two hundred miles away from where I was staying at the time.

So: I went. I went, and I had an absolute blast. I spoke and connected with folks, sat around drum circles, ate my fill of fry bread and just... had such an emotionally, soul-freeing time. I really can't put into words how much that adventure meant to me.

While I was there, I decided to pick up some assorted craft supplies that I could put together in my hotel room since I missed making my fans [link] so very much.

The supplies I got didn't have a lot of logic to them. They just "felt" good, and in the end I assembled three little creations that felt very "me." One I kept for myself, and two I gave to two very special people.

I called them my Teal Blue Dreams. I made them to hang, ang to have a bit of a feel of a strung choker to them. I hand-dyed white horsehair into blues, teals, and greens (some of my favorite colors) and trimmed it with tin dance-cones, camel-tanned deerhide, dyed amber horn, glass pony beads, a slice of antler, sinew, shells, and silver fox fur.

They are about twelve-inches long by six inches wide, and every time I look at mine, I think of my friends, our adventures, and that day I went the extra mile to that out-of-state Pow Wow. :)

I really should get back to doing such crafts. I do them all-too-infrequently these days, it seems.
